Misplaced/Dangling Modifiers
Modifiers are words, phrases, or clauses that add description. In a good sentence, we should be able to identify what each modifier describes.
Good Example:
Horrified, mom snatched the deviled eggs from Jack, whose fingers were covered with cat hair.
Poor Example:
Hungry, the leftover pizza was devoured. (Who devoured it?)
Rummaging in her giant handbag, the sunglasses escaped detection. (Who rummaged? The sunglasses? The handbag?)
